Printing

Imperial uses offset printing for our customers custom boxes. We can handle the simplest one-color project to the most demanding eight-color job. We have the ability to match any color on your existing custom boxes. We offer the following types of printing options:

PMS Colors or Spot Colors: Custom colors from a color chart.

4 Color Process or CMYK: Uses 4 inks (Cyan-magenta-yellow-black) to make any number of colors. Most jobs use a 4 color process.

As part of our commitment to providing eco-friendly boxes, we use soy-based ink which is biodegradable. In addition, the colors from soy-based ink are brighter, so less ink is needed.

Paperboard

We have the ability to print your custom boxes on various types of paperboard and thicknesses. The caliper (thickness) of the paperboard can be up to 40 point if it needs to be printed. If there is no printing, the paperboard can be any thickness. We use the following grades of paper.

Virgin Board

SBS (Solid Bleached Sulfate): White on both sides with white filler. SBS is generally used for custom cannabis boxescustom cosmetic boxescustom food boxescustom medical boxescustom pharmaceutical packaging boxes, high-end custom retail boxes, and custom vape boxes.

SUS (Solid Unbleached Sulfate): White on one side and brown on the other side. SUS possesses greater strength and rigidity than SBS, and can be found in many applications, including custom beverage boxes and custom food boxes.

Poly Board: White on both sides (SBS), and poly (wax) is applied to either one side or both sides. Poly Board is used for custom food boxes when food touches paper.

Ovenable Board: White on both sides with a coating on one side. It is SBS board that can withstand high temperatures and therefore can be used in the oven. Ovenable Board is generally used for custom food boxes.

Recycled Board

CCNB (Clay Coated News Back): White on the front, with gray on the back. CCNB is one of the most popular grades of paper because it combines a good printing surface with an inexpensive, but bending grade substrate. This product is made up of 80% post-consumer recycled paper and 20% recycled paper. Typical applications include custom display boxes for point of purchase, as well as custom beverage boxes, custom cannabis boxes, custom cosmetic boxes, custom food boxes, custom retail boxes and custom vape boxes.

CCKB (Clay Coated Kraft Back): White on the front with brown on the back. CCKB is made from 100% recycled paper. It is used for custom display boxes for point of purchase, as well as custom beverage boxes, custom cosmetic boxes, custom food boxes and custom retail boxes.

Bending Chip: Brown on both sides. Bending Chip is made up of 100% recycled paper. It is generally used for custom paper boxes which require a natural, ecologically-aware appearance, such as custom cosmetic boxes, custom food boxes and custom retail boxes.

Hemp Paper: Hemp is one of the strongest plants so it adds strength to paper, making it perfect for packaging. The hemp fibers add visual texture and can be used for any product where the brand prefers a more natural, eco-friendly look. Hemp paper is available in either white, natural brown, or black, and is made up of 30-80% Post-Consumer Waste, depending on which variety is chosen. In addition, hemp paper is FSC-certified. Hemp paper is available in a Vellum Finish, which is relatively absorbent for fast ink penetration. While hemp paper is primarily used for custom cannabis boxes, it can be used for other applications as well.

In addition, since Imperial is FSC chain-of-custody certified, customers looking for eco-friendly recycled green boxes can request FSC-certified paper, which is traceable to responsibly managed forests.
