Eco-Friendly Recycled Green Boxes
Imperial is an environmentally conscious folding carton manufacturer which offers various eco-friendly Green options for your custom packaging boxes. We use the most environmentally friendly packaging available, we are FSC-certified, we use 100% wind power, we use soy-based ink, we offer water-based aqueous coatings, and we have a large recycling program.
Eco-Friendly Paper / Recycled Paper
Hemp Paper
One of our recycled paper options is hemp paper. Every pound of hemp pulp used to make paper products replaces one pound of tree pulp taken from forests. Hemp grows to its full size in about 4 months compared to trees that are harvested after 7 to 30 years to make tree pulp. Using hemp paper has a direct positive impact on the environment! Customers who choose Hemp Paper will have the option of using the Hemp Leaf Logo on their boxes.
FSC-Certified
In conjunction with our philosophy of offering environmentally friendly packaging for customers, Imperial is FSC-certified. Customers can be assured that FSC-certified paper purchased by Imperial is traceable to responsibly managed forests, and that there are documented controls in place to make sure that the integrity of the environment is upheld.
The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) promotes environmentally responsible, socially respectful, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. After undergoing a rigorous audit, Imperial received FSC chain-of-custody certification. Chain-of-custody certification provides a guarantee about the production of FSC-certified products.
Chain-of-custody is the path taken by raw materials from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution. Achieving FSC chain of custody certification is consistent with Imperial’s environmentally conscious philosophy of producing environmentally friendly packaging.
FSC is available upon request. Imperial is among the few certified printers who can print the official FSC Logo on printed products. Customers can promote their environmental stance by requesting FSC Certified paper, and print the FSC Logo on their printed boxes through Imperial. Imperial is set up to print on FSC 100%, FSC Mix, or FSC Recycled paper.
Wind Power
Imperial supports the development of clean energy projects by addressing 100% of our electricity use. To achieve this, we’ve purchased 132,000 MWh of renewable energy credits (REC’s). REC’s are the way that green power is tracked and traded in North America and are used by thousands of U.S. and Canadian organizations, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to decrease environmental impact.
The purchase of each REC allows the buyer to claim the same positive environmental attributes as one megawatt-hour of on-site clean power generation without the cost and operational complications presented by on-site technology. The REC’s we’ve purchased are sourced from 100% U.S. wind power facilities and are certified by Green-e® Energy, the nation’s leading certification program for renewable energy.
By purchasing the REC’s, Imperial’s customers can print the logo “Boxes Made with 100% Renewable Energy” on their custom packaging boxes.
Imperial’s purchase of renewable energy helps avoid up to 167,829 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions from being emitted into the atmosphere. This commitment has a similar impact as 1,952 tree seedlings grown for 10 years or avoiding the carbon emissions from consuming 8,534 gallons of gasoline.

Recycling Program
We recycle everything we can. This includes:
Paperboard waste generated during the printing process as well as office paper. This eco-friendly practice greatly reduces natural resources used in milling virgin paper. The paper waste we recycle saves thousands of trees each year.
Wood products, such as pallets and off-cuts
Metal, including all aluminum plating materials and metal straps
Liquid wastes such as oil
In addition, our production area has abundant natural sunlight, thereby reducing the need for electricity.
